Welcome to the Molaczka blog – what I write about here

Hello, and welcome to the Molaczka blog! Day to day, I crochet and knit handbags, totes, hats and shawls – making every item myself from start to finish, stitch by stitch. This blog is where I want to show you the other side of these pieces: what they're made from, how much work goes into them, and how to care for them so they last for years.

What I'll be writing about

  • Materials – how cotton cord differs from ordinary yarn, why I choose a different yarn for a hat than for a bag, and what to look out for when buying handmade.
  • Care – how to wash, dry and store handmade items so they don't stretch or pill, and look like new for a long time.
  • How my pieces are made – from the idea and choice of colour, through swatches and adjustments, to the final finishing touches.
  • Choosing and wearing – which bag works for every day and which for travel, how to choose a hat to suit your face shape, and several ways to wear a shawl.
  • Answers to your questions – the ones I hear most often before someone decides to buy.

Why handmade

A handmade piece isn't made in a few minutes. Sometimes it takes a few evenings, sometimes a few weeks – if along the way I unravel something and start again because I'm not happy with the result. That's exactly why each one is a little different, and why I want to show what lies behind them. I believe that when we know how something was made, we wear it longer and with more joy.
