Handmade crochet baskets
I crochet my baskets and storage pots by hand, stitch by stitch, in my studio in Bolesławiec. The dense stitch helps them keep their shape and stand steady. Here you'll find Easter baskets – one with a tall handle and one shaped like a hen – as well as a lidded pot for odds and ends. I make every basket to order in the colours you choose, so it also makes a lovely personal gift.

What is a crochet basket for?
A crochet basket is for storing small things and for decoration. Molaczka's small baskets hold keys, hair clips, hair ties or jewellery, and the Easter baskets hold painted eggs and the traditional Easter food basket for blessing (święconka). I crochet them in a dense stitch that keeps them stable and in shape.

An Easter blessing basket – what to look for
When choosing a basket for the Easter blessing, what matters most is a comfortable handle and a stable base. The Orange basket has a tall, wrapped handle for carrying by hand. Food is best placed in packaging or on a napkin, as the basket isn't intended for direct contact with unwrapped food. After Easter, the basket can carry on as a storage pot or decoration.
Decorative or practical?
Both. The lidded Acorn keeps small things tidy on a desk, a chest of drawers or in the bathroom, and alongside dried flowers or pine cones it becomes an autumn decoration. The Hen is first and foremost a decoration for the Easter table. The baskets are not toys: the Hen has small decorative parts (comb, beak, eye), so it should be kept out of the reach of small children.
How to care for a crochet basket
- Remove dust with a soft brush or a damp cloth.
- Spot-clean minor marks with a little plain household soap.
- If needed, hand wash in lukewarm water, gently press out the water and dry flat, shaping by hand.
- Do not machine wash or dry on a radiator.
Frequently asked questions
What can a crochet basket be used for?
A crochet basket works well as a container for small items – keys, hair clips, hair ties or jewellery – and as a decoration. Easter baskets hold painted eggs and the Easter blessing food, and after the holidays they serve as a bowl for fruit or yarn, or as a plant pot cover.
Can I carry Easter food for blessing in a crochet basket?
Yes – the Easter basket with the tall handle is designed for exactly that, among other things. However, it isn't intended for direct contact with unwrapped food, so eggs, bread or cold meats are best placed on a napkin or in packaging. This also protects the cord from getting dirty.
How do I clean a crochet basket?
Remove dust with a soft brush or damp cloth, and spot-clean small stains with a little plain household soap. If the basket needs washing, hand wash it in lukewarm water, gently press out the water and dry it flat, shaping it by hand. Never machine wash it or dry it on a radiator.
Is the Hen Basket a toy for children?
No. The Hen Basket is an Easter decoration and a small container, not a toy. It has small decorative parts (comb, beak and eye), so it should be kept out of the reach of small children.
