I knit Molaczka hats by hand on needles, mostly from thick, soft yarn. They include warm winter hats with cables, pompoms and turned-up brims, as well as a crown hat for children that's perfect for birthdays and photo shoots. What is a hand-knitted hat?
A hand-knitted hat is made from yarn on knitting needles, without machines. At Molaczka, the winter hats have a thick, textured stitch that holds in warmth well, and a wide turned-up brim that protects the ears from the wind. Each design is made as a one-off, so there's no other hat exactly like it.

How to choose a knitted hat
When choosing a knitted hat, the size, the thickness of the stitch, and whether it's for frosty or milder days matter most. For winter, a thick, textured stitch with a turned-up brim that covers the ears is best. It's worth matching the colour to your jacket: ecru and graphite go with most coats, while red, yellow and green stripes liven up a sporty jacket or parka. The crown hat for children
The crown hat is a knitted, crown-shaped hat for children, with a stretchy ribbed band that sits around the head without pressing. It's more for photos and milder days than for frosty weather. It's perfect for newborn and birthday shoots and first birthdays. Enter the colour (ecru or powder pink) in the order notes. It's an item of clothing, not a toy – only put it on a child under adult supervision.
How to wash a pompom hat
- Hand wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, without rubbing or wringing.
- Press the water out in a towel.
- Dry flat, away from radiators.
- Once dry, gently fluff up the pompom with your fingers.
